Statement of Intent

Capstone Proposal

While the national healthcare system is one of the most controversial issues in the media right now; the military healthcare system is a problem that continues to take the backseat. In my state alone there are several deficiencies that could be taken care of but are being neglected. The state of Texas essentially only has about three main and active veteran rehabilitation program in the North Texas area and only three programs to provide services throughout the state. Under the official health insurance provided to a soldier by the military most often times the level of rehabilitation needed in most cases is also not covered by Tricare, the military health care plan. Under the program Tricare, there are special rules or limits on certain types of care, while other types of care are not covered at all.

My plan to solve it is to create a new rehabilitation plan which would ultimately become a mandatory part of a returning soldier’s healthcare plan. This rehabilitation plan is currently being put into place on an interactive website explaining the details and plans of the entire program. The website allows anyone who may be interested to explore the alternative options they may not otherwise have through their primary healthcare plan with the military. It is being sponsored by the recruiting offices of the North Dallas area. By creating this alternative rehabilitation program to returning soldiers and their families they are allotted the opportunity to get financial assistance with the issues they are facing as well as the health care providers they need. Issues that would otherwise go on uncovered by the military health care plan will be found a solution by this new corporation. I also believe that not only is this alternative important but making the program mandatory will help prevent multiple problems that come with a soldier re-entering a civilian lifestyle. Considering the last time our country dealt with this particular issue was over thirty years ago, I think it’s time to approach soldiers coming back from was in a new and innovative way. By coming up with new programs and not allowing any soldier to go without these services, it reflects the powerful opinion that we are refusing to allow these issues to affect our future generations as they have in the past.
